EUROSUL Ship Supplier, a leader in maritime solutions, reaffirms its commitment to delivering top-quality products that are certified and fully compliant with the strictest international standards. In this article, we emphasize the importance of SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) certified products for safe navigation in Brazilian waters, as well as the certification criteria that regulate these essential items.

SOLAS Certification and Approval by the Brazilian Navy
In Brazil, the Directorate of Ports and Coasts (DPC), a branch of the Brazilian Navy, is the official authority responsible for inspecting and approving equipment for vessels. SOLAS-certified products, which comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, are widely accepted by the DPC for use on vessels operating in Brazilian waters. This includes liferafts, lifejackets, self-contained breathing apparatus, pyrotechnics, and firefighting equipment.
Requirements for SOLAS Certification

SOLAS certification is mandatory for international merchant vessels and highly recommended for ships operating in offshore environments, ensuring that equipment meets the highest safety and quality standards. To receive SOLAS certification, a product must comply with the strict IMO rules set out in international conventions and codes.
Some of the requirements include:
Design and Construction Standards: | Products must be manufactured according to robust standards that ensure functionality and resistance under adverse conditions. Examples include the Life-Saving Appliances (LSA) Code, which specifies technical requirements for lifejackets, liferafts, and other equipment. |
| Testing and Trials: | Equipment must undergo rigorous tests simulating real-life conditions, such as fire resistance, saltwater exposure, buoyancy, and visibility. These tests are carried out by IMO-recognized certification bodies. |
| Documentation and Certification: | Each SOLAS-certified product comes with detailed documentation, including test reports, user manuals, and a certificate of conformity issued by an authorized body, such as DNV, RINA, or other recognized entities. |
| Maintenance and Renewal of Certification: | To remain valid, certificates must be periodically renewed in accordance with international standards and local authorities, such as the DPC. |
In addition, products must be inspected and approved by authorities such as the Brazilian Navy, ANAC, RINA, and DNV for use in national waters.
